{"id":141666,"date":"2018-06-15T14:01:55","date_gmt":"2018-06-15T14:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/freeonlinetranslators.net\/news\/english\/new-upskirting-law-blocked-by-tory-mp\/"},"modified":"2018-06-15T14:01:55","modified_gmt":"2018-06-15T14:01:55","slug":"new-upskirting-law-blocked-by-tory-mp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/freeonlinetranslators.net\/news\/english\/new-upskirting-law-blocked-by-tory-mp\/","title":{"rendered":"New upskirting law blocked by Tory MP"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure>             <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/images\/ic\/720x405\/p06b4rpn.jpg\"\/>Media playback is unsupported on your device<figcaption>Media captionGina Martin campaigned for the law to be changed after a man took a picture up her skirt<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"caps\">An attempt to make upskirting a specific criminal offence in England and Wales has been blocked by one Conservative MP. <\/p>\n<p>The government gave its support to a change in the law before it was brought to the Commons. <\/p>\n<p>But Sir Christopher Chope shouted &quot;object&quot; to the private member&#039;s bill. <\/p>\n<p>The campaign for the bill against upskirting - when photos are secretly taken under a skirt - was started by victim Gina Martin.<\/p>\n<p>In the Commons, MPs shouted &quot;shame&quot; after the intervention, stopping the bill getting a second reading. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I was a victim of upskirting - but I&#039;m fighting back<\/li>\n<li>Live Nation exec filmed up women&#039;s skirts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The bill, brought to the House by Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse, would have made upskirting a criminal offence in line with other voyeurism offences - meaning offenders could face a maximum of two years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>It was expected to pass after the Ministry of Justice earlier showed its support. <\/p>\n<p>But the rules in Parliament mean it only requires one MP to shout &quot;object&quot; to block a bill&#039;s progress. <\/p>\n<h2>&#039;I was upskirted at the bus stop&#039;<\/h2>\n<figure>                                                                                                       Image copyright                  Getty Images                                                    <\/figure>\n<p>Debbie was 17 when a man came and sat down next to her at a bus stop, and then started moving closer towards her. <\/p>\n<p>She says: &quot;I was aware something wasn&#039;t quite right, but every time I turned around he pretended to be looking out towards the road where the bus was coming from.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;You don&#039;t always have the confidence to say something, so I stood up and walked away.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;But when I turned around to look at him he was holding up his mobile phone.
