{"id":138930,"date":"2018-06-10T00:47:51","date_gmt":"2018-06-10T00:47:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/freeonlinetranslators.net\/news\/english\/mass-march-marks-100-years-of-womens-vote\/"},"modified":"2018-06-10T00:47:51","modified_gmt":"2018-06-10T00:47:51","slug":"mass-march-marks-100-years-of-womens-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/freeonlinetranslators.net\/news\/english\/mass-march-marks-100-years-of-womens-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"Mass march marks 100 years of women&#8217;s vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure>                                  <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Female MPs including Leader of the House of Commons Andrea Leadsom (left) wearing suffragette colours\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/320\/cpsprodpb\/156D5\/production\/_101956778_mediaitem101956777.jpg\"\/>Image copyright                  PA<figcaption>Image caption                                      Female MPs have got behind the mass march on Sunday                              <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"caps\">Women across the UK are set to march together to create a living artwork, to mark 100 years since the first British women won the vote.<\/p>\n<p>Women in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London will don the colours of the suffragette movement - green, white and purple - and join a mass procession.<\/p>\n<p>One hundred female artists have worked with local communities to create banners for marches in the four cities.<\/p>\n<p>The protest banners will bear messages about equality.<\/p>\n<p>The mass participation artwork is being hailed as a &quot;once-in-a-lifetime opportunity&quot; celebrating a centenary of the women&#039;s vote.<\/p>\n<p>The 1918 Representation of the People Act gave women the vote - but only for those who were over 30 years old and who also owned property.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The banners and what the women behind them<\/li>\n<li>The rediscovered letters of a suffragist<\/li>\n<li>Statue of suffragist unveiled opposite Parliament<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Those marching will be given a green, white or violet scarf to wear to create the coloured stripes in the procession. Several speakers shared memories of women who had fought for female suffrage, but many argued there was still a long way to go.<\/p>\n<p>In April, a statue commemorating the life of the suffragist, Millicent Fawcett - by artist Gillian Wearing - was unveiled opposite Parliament.<\/p>\n<p> sites across England where suffragettes held mass meetings or protests are being officially recognised on the National Heritage List. <\/p>\n<p>Historic England has chosen more than 40 places which record the frontline of the movement&#039;s struggle. <\/p>\n<p>Included on the list is the Prince&#039;s Stand at Epsom racecourse, the scene of the most famous protest by suffragettes, in which
